This is Not Jesus! Ok, it looks like Jesus. Or it looks to YOU like Jesus. Or it looks to the artist like Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But when we say: What do you see?<\/strong> we don’t answer Jesus<\/strong>. The answer might be: “A man with a beard and a white robe, who looks like Jesus”. and that is a more honest answer that will help us better analyze the painting.

So we start with the question What do you see?<\/strong> and we look closely at the painting and identify OBJECTIVELY what we see.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then we ask the question What do you feel?<\/strong> Now is the time to be SUBJECTIVE, because everybody approaches a painting differently. do you like the painting? does it make you happy? Sad? Uncomfortable? Confused? Irritated? Scared? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next we ask questions about the painting. What do you wonder about?<\/strong> What is the painting called? Who painted it? What is it about? When was it painted? Why was it painted? Questions sometimes spark new questions. Sometimes, because this is a faith based class, we read related Bible passages and inquire about those as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally, we delve deeper asking What do you think?<\/strong> This is the time for you to express your thoughts on the painting, the artist, the subject matter, and your faith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
